Service Learning
Service Learning at Little Bear Preschool Special Ed
Fall 2021
I did my service learning in Fall, I have always loved working with children and this was a great experience specially because it was also something new working with children with special needs such as Down syndrome, Autism, and super active activity. I was pre-educated on helping Miss. laura’s afternoon class and Mrs. Kate’s morning class. In these time of 4 hours each class we would have different activities to help children with their learning, such as singing at the beginning of class we would sit with the students and help them learn the movements of the song, little by little they were able to do them alone, also we would sing the ABC song, act them for the day we were in and the climate of the day for example if it was sunny, cloudy, cold, raining. Also, we would sing the months and count the numbers 1-10 and every week we would add 10 more and so on until they were familiar with the numbers.
We would have activity time where everyday we would have fun activities of learning for them using play-do for tracing letters in a paper, color letters, counting , reading time, and play time where they learned to share and ask for questions they had about anything they had.
Doing my service learning in this preschool was a very fun experience. I enjoyed working with children, especially with special children. They are so smart and so loving. Every kid is special but I learned a different lesson working with these children on having patience. Every child learns in a different way however they all have the ability to make it work in their own space. I would totally do it all over again.
